Removing Joy: The Life-Changing Madness of Being a Social Justice Warrior
In the last couple years the Marie Kondo method of decluttering, as described in The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, has taken the world by storm. The author advises that the best way to declutter “is to take each item in one’s hand and ask: ‘Does this spark joy?’ If it does, keep it. If not, dispose of it.”
The Social Justice Warrior movement has taken a different approach when it comes to decluttering American life — if it sparks joy, remove it.
That’s Not Funny
On a recent episode of Kennedy on Fox Business, comedian Lisa Lampanelli said that she’s done only two gigs on college campuses in about 30 years. Known for her insult humor that pulls no punches, she says it’s clear that college campuses weren’t the place for her when mild-mannered comedians like Jerry Seinfeld stopped doing campus gigs.
If you’re not in a major city with a vibrant comedy scene, like New York or LA, your best bet for seeing smart, funny comedians is Fox News and Fox Business. People like Joe DeVito, Jimmy Faillia, Dave Smith, Tom Shillue, John DeVore, Alli Breen, Andrew Schulz, Nick Di Paolo, Ben Kissel, Kris Fried and others are hosts and frequent guests on Fox News, Fox Business and Fox News Radio.
Meanwhile, we’re getting lectures on Obamacare and gun control from late night talk show hosts. Not to mention apologies for past jokes from once-edgy comedians like Amy Schumer and Sarah Silverman. In fact, last year the iconic Estee Adoram, long-time booker for the Comedy Cellar in New York, was interviewed by Lena Dunham. To Dunham’s shock, Adoram shot down every feminist trope she earnestly dug up.
On lack of females in comedy, Adoram said:
“I am not gonna put someone on who is not great just because she’s female. And I really don’t believe any club owner would not book a woman just because she’s a woman. There’s only one trend in comedy and that’s to be funny. I don’t go for gimmicks.”
On rape jokes, Adoram said:
“Depends on how you do it. You need to come and you’re going to listen to Lynne Koplitz doing the rape joke. If you don’t laugh, I’ll buy you whatever you want.”
On being stepped over in the business because she’s a woman, Adoram said:
“Maybe they say things behind my back, I don’t know. But no, I never felt it. I can’t even think of an incident of somebody trying.”
On whether the feminist ideology defines her, Adoram said:
“I was always in the position of authority, even when I was in the army. I was always in the position of authority.”
If you’re looking for comedy that sparks tearful, joyous laughter, go to Fox News, podcasts, and iTunes. If you’re looking for tearful talking points written by Chuck Schumer, watch the late night comedy shows.
Trick or Non-GMO, Fair Trade Treat?
In my new political humor book, The Social Justice Warrior Handbook: A Practical Survival Guide for Snowflakes, Millennials, and Generation Z, I write about the lengths SJWs will go to remove joy from the workplace, entertainment and, of course, holidays.
We celebrate a lot of holidays. Ever the wet-blanket nags, SJWs will take any opportunity to demonstrate their virtue and accuse others of racism, sexism, and cultural appropriation. As Halloween approaches, social justice warriors and professional wet-blankets will be on hand to water down the fun.
When we were kids we had to worry about the urban legend of finding razor blades in your candy. Now it’s whether little Aiden’s cowboy costume promotes toxic masculinity or gender stereotypes. Jamia Wilson of Women, Action and the Media told Refinery29, “Why do people use Halloween as a time to be offensive?”
A better question might be “Why do people use Halloween to further their outrage agenda?” The answer is simple — SJWs have the ear of the leftist media. Once they decide a beloved character or costume is offensive, it’s blasted out and pulled off shelves before you can say “Trick or treat?” (Side note: is this common Halloween phrase offensive to sex workers?)
A Woke Halloween
Here’s an idea: instead of the tired “sexy” version of a costume, how about a “woke” costume? For example:
Woke football player (with one knee-pad)
Woke actress (with a Harvey Weinstein movie script and anti-Trump t-shirt)
Woke baby (be sure not to wear pink or blue, but a gender-neutral color like oatmeal)
Woke professor (don’t forget your protest gear)
Halloween is just the beginning of the SJWs busy season as they forage for outrage. It’s not enough for them to be miserable nags, they must also take away our ability to laugh and dress up without fear of being publicly shamed.
