A Bunch of People You Should Follow on Twitter

Every six months or so there’s a list of “X People to Follow on Twitter.” To solve for X, it’s the people you want to share, retweet and generally promote you or your website. That’s ok. It’s why we’re all here.
Here’s my list of people I like to follow and who have been helpful to me throughout my writing career, particularly in sharing my new political humor book, The Social Justice Warrior Handbook: A Practical Survival Guide for Snowflakes, Millennials, and Generation Z. Many of them also post photos of their dogs.
- Kurt Schlichter He’s my red meat alter-ego and says all the things I’m too chicken to say (as well as the things I’m not clever enough to think of first.). Also, he has a dog named Bitey!
- Chris Barron No, not the Spin Doctor. He’s a great writer and political strategist. Also, he has TWO dogs, Chester and Auggie.
- Liz Sheld She’s funny and is never offended when I just want to gossip. She knows everything about firearms and doesn’t own any that are pink. Sadly, she only has two cats.
- Terry Schappert You know when a gnat flies around a piece of fruit and no matter how many times you shoo it away it keeps coming back? I’m Terry’s gnat. Also, he has a dog named Rooney! You may have seen Rooney in my Twitter feed once or twice…
- Nick Gillespie I usually get one out of five of his pop culture references. As Shauna (voiced by Sara Gilbert) said on The Simpsons, “I want to discover who I really am, and that is something only an inappropriately older man can give me.” I don’t know his pet situation.
- Ann Coulter There’s a reason I put her name on the cover of my first two books — because I wanted to sell books. She has no pets, but loves beagles!
- Brett Smith If Mad Men’s Peggy and Stan were real, he would be Stan. I’d be Ida Blankenship. He has a new book coming out next week — Thump: The First Bundred Days. More importantly, he has a dog named Cora!
- Mike Broomhead He’s a radio and TV host, as well as a Gold Star family member. He doesn’t have dog. But, he was a bullrider, so he gets style points.
- Bre Payton I make an effort to stay up to date on the important issues, like lipstick trends.
- BRIGHT editors. We have a great group at BRIGHT, a daily email for women that I founded and edit on Mondays. Mary Katherine Ham is Tuesday, Kelsey Harkness (with dog named Utah!) is Wednesday, Inez Stepman is Thursday (previously done by the wonderful Gracy Olmstead), and Ericka Andersen is Friday.
- TAS The Resident Artist A great artist who draws my wildest dreams, as well as my favorite shows like Red Eye (RIP) and The Tom Shillue Show. TAS has a cat, but draws my favorite dogs and that’s good enough for me.
- Nick Searcy I learned everything I know about being a pompous, entitled celebrity from his acting school.
- Joel Pollak I just want to freak out people who have a problem with a list that includes anyone from Breitbart. For extra outrage, here’s a link to his review of my book.
- Mike Rowe Full disclosure: Most of his tweets are links to his Facebook page, but it’s well-worth the extra step. Obviously, he has a scruffy, handsome dog named Freddy (who also posts on Fridays).
- Kat Murti and Sara Miller We’re all #TeamBangs.
- Cam Edwards THIS IS NOT A DRILL — He has three fluffy dogs (Bulleit, Booker, and Zelda), as well as several piglets and goats.
- Everyone I Follow. If they have a dog, create a new account and follow them twice.
