7 Great Podcasts for Non-Podcast Listeners
I’ve been on dozens of podcasts as a guest and a host, but I’m not a regular podcast listener. However, there are a handful of episodes and shows that are slowly converting me. You’ll notice a lot of repeated names because they’re the ones who inspire me or have encouraged me in small and large ways over the years.
I’ve included the video links when available, but many of these are on iTunes and Stitcher if you search for the show.
The Code Breaker, The Way I Heard It with Mike Rowe
Not being an avid podcast listener, Mike Rowe’s “The Way I Heard It” is perfect for people like me because they’re generally not more than 10 minutes long. As Rowe puts it, “the only podcast for the curious mind with a short attention span.”
This is the episode that hooked me.
The Dreamer, The Way I Heard It with Mike Rowe
This is the episode that made me realize there’s still a lot I don’t know about the people I think I know. Another is this week’s episode, Charlie’s Big Break.
Interview with Michael Malice, Joe Rogan Experience
As I often say, I’m a fan of the political world’s misfits — you’ll find many of them on this list. Joe Rogan’s podcast is basically the opposite of Mike Rowe’s. They can run up to three hours, but the time flies when he has interesting guests. For example, in this one I learned about Michael Malice’s denim obsession and that he bought the url CadburyCremeEggs.com just because it was available. Other good guests Rogan’s had include Mike Baker, Milo, Gavin McInnes and Leah Remini,
Interview with Scott Adams, The One with Greg Gutfeld
Like Mike Rowe’s podcast, Greg Gutfeld’s are shorter than your average podcast. They’re about 20 minutes and this one left me wanting more, so I immediately bought Scott Adams’ book, How to Fail At Almost Everything and Still Win Big.
Interview with Ann Coulter, Free Speech with Gavin McInnes
This was one of the first and most in-depth interviews with Ann Coulter after the publication of her New York Times bestseller Adios, America. Gavin is no longer doing this podcast, but has a daily show (Monday through Thursday) on Compound Media. It’s totally worth the modest subscription fee. As an added bonus, you get all the other content on Compound Media, including Michael Malice’s weekly show.
Interview with Terry Schappert (Episode 13), The Sheepdog Project with Dr. Mike Simpson
Terry Schappert has the distinct honor of being the only return guest on my podcast. He’s also been on many other shows and podcasts. This podcast episode is particularly interesting because Schappert and Simpson both served in the Army, so there’s a shared bond that civilians can’t understand. But we can at least listen in!
Interview with Greg Gutfeld, Reason Podcast with Nick Gillespie
When I first wrote about the concept of “political punks” these are the two people I had in mind. It all comes together at the end when they talk about today’s freedom-loving students making the left into “Dean Wormer” from Animal House.
