The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the perfect opportunity to try new bath and beauty brands and grab your favorites at a discount. In my first post about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I didn’t spend much time on makeup, bath, and other beauty items. Since I see other recommendations making the round on YouTube, I thought I’d throw in mine since they’re a little different!

Sets are for trying new products, not necessarily saving money

The sale features several beauty and bath sets. I don’t think of these as a way to save money, but to try several products from one brand at a lower price point. They often change non-standard…

One of the most gratifying and frustrating aspects of losing over 140 pounds has been clothes shopping. Gratifying in that it’s fun to shop new brands and new stores. Frustrating in that sizing varies so much and you don’t want to overspend when your body is still changing.

Over the last three years, I’ve relied on some tricks and pieces as I’ve transitioned from a size 24/26 to my current size 10/12.

Whether you are at the beach, stealing an hour out of your day for quiet reading, or listening to an audiobook during a commute or road trip, here are my recommendations for summer reading.

Fiction

I’m writing this from the top of a mountain in Winchester, Virginia!

Today I watered lots of vegetables and flowers, heard the buzzing from three beehives, ate fresh eggs from chickens named after the Golden Girls, and fed the animals (two dogs).

The great thing about my two weeks at friends’ house in the mountains is that I was motivated to only bring and buy the essentials — with a few treats to keep it fun. Here are my summer 2021 favorites!

Binge on 2019: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December; 2020: January, February

This is usually a monthly series on my favorite things (binge on 2019: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December and 2020: January, February, March, April, May, June, July). I took a break last year and here we are in 2021! Working from home, eating at home, and doing everything at home makes me acutely aware of the things I now think I can’t live without! These are my winter favorites, but most will take you into spring. Cheers to warmer weather and the time change!

I’m obsessed with the combination of this Skims henley…

On January 7, following the peaceful rally and smattering of violence at the U.S. Capitol, I made sure to tune into Rush Limbaugh’s show because I knew he provides words of wisdom and clarity during a difficult time. It made me think of how important Rush has been in my life — from age 16 to now as I navigate through a different season of life. This week you’ll hear from others, like John Rich, with similar stories about Rush’s generosity. No doubt there are many, many more. What follows is an email I sent to James (aka Snerdley) and…

One of the most popular aspects of Mondays with Melania in Monday’s BRIGHT newsletter over the last couple years has been our attempt at getting her look for less. Since the First Lady has been ignored by fashion and women’s media during her tenure, in this final edition I’m featuring the most popular items inspired by the First Lady’s fashion that are still available.

A huge thank you to John Binder of Fashion Notes who was the only fashion writer who wrote about the First Lady and tracked down the brands. I couldn’t have done this section without his excellent…

Last week my fellow BRIGHT writers and I shared our picks for gifts to give. It was so fun that I decided to expand the list because new deals seem to be coming up every day. New items in bold, so get them while they’re hot!

For Getting Her Cozy
The theme of 2020 is cozy (if we’re being polite). Whether it’s being comfortable in the home office or going on an organizing streak to calm the chaos, these are my favorite items to give her.

Think what you want about the Kardashians, but KKW’s Skims loungewear and pajamas are seriously…

Earlier this summer a friend died by suicide. Since September is National Suicide Prevention Month, I was eager to talk to Andy Stumpf, a retired Navy SEAL Team 6 member, podcast host, and record-setting base jumper, about mental, physical, and overall wellness, specifically among the veteran community and how friends can help support them.

Why did you decide to serve in the US Navy?
I don’t have a good answer as to why I wanted to serve in the Navy, and specifically the SEAL community. I knew at the age of 11 I wanted to be a SEAL, but I could…

UPDATE: I’m told that things will be restocked, so bookmark and keep checking throughout the sale.

If you’ve spent any time on YouTube in the last few weeks, then you know it’s the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. In a fun twist, I’m building on my “Mondays with Melania” write-up and showing you how Melania (perhaps along with her brilliant designer and stylist Hervé Pierre) might shop the sale. You’ll see classic pieces similar to what she’s worn, edgier pieces that she likes to don for casual events, and some gifts she might get for The Donald and Barron. No slouchy…
